Mark's Story
I died in a motorcycle accident in Sunnyvale - but I wrote good poetry and did good music & mathematics (PhD) - now I am one of the living dead in Russia - St. Petersburg - well I walk and talk (in Russian) to the shopkeepers punks goths and scum - like me - I have the cutest girl in the world who loves me (and I love her also) But just scum - and I make virtual 3D worlds - where I live. My spirit is out running and howling with the dogs -
faster and faster across the flat track,
faster than a true heart coming to a decision,
I am Everywhere in the bowl of Night,
I can't help myself.
So please keep these photos of me.

Just like the maid of the Maze
you and your harlequin stockings and your split black skirt.
When we play at love health is a lesser priority.
This used to mean explorations of velocity over the dark roads
under skies streaming with stars.
It used to mean shouting words and phrases as they came to mind
and dressing in unusual costumes,
and turning on the stereo and two radios all at once
and dancing in the Storm.
Now there is a letter on the little table where you used
to lay your keys or your bracelet.
It says:
"I'm better now and I send warm waning kisses"
Below in the garden
the future masquerades as paradise.
Dear childhood,
please don't come this way again.

I thought I was invisible in a way that dogs
would not bark or even lift an ear - this was when
I got back from India.
I thought birds would not be afraid and would land on my shoulders.
I was wrong about many things.
The rest is private.
At this point my only concern is the release of Joy,
the mortal perfumed combat and the same eternal story over and over
and over the way it was when we were seventeen.
They say it is a life wasted
and maybe they're partly right,
but we all die soon enough.
So now we will again look at each other
in that shyly desperate trance
and in the end it will be part of the same eternal SMILE
written on the faded photo
laying on the kitchen table
taken just before the accident.

I have always had plans for Lilac Time,
and I don't like false memories.
I want to touch someones face
and see everything everywhere always.
If there is one time only
let it be here standing in the slowly falling snow.
