Mark's Story
After high school, I went to Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan. I stared out in Mechanical Engineering, but switched to Metallurgical Engineering in my second year. I pledged a fraternity my second year in the fall. I met my wife at a freshman mixer my first fall, and we got married in the fall of my senior year. I wrote for the school paper as a freshman, was in the school play (played the H.L. Menken character in "Inherit the Wind".
I took a job out of college at a brand new Aluminum Company in New Madrid MO. My wife(she was very pregnant at the time) and I camped out on our way down to New Madrid Mo. I worked there for about 3 years. I then took a job at Kaiser Aluminum at Spokane Wn, which is where I was born. 2 sons were born in New Madrid, and another in Spokane. We lost my oldest son in a drowning accident in Florida, and subsequently had 2 more boys after we moved to Chicago.
I also worked in California for the same company from 1996 to 2004, and now work in Valparaiso Indiana. I was a plant manager of an alumninum end manufacturing plant in San Leandro California, and hold the same position in Valparaiso.
Our sons are in age order: a teacher and jornalism advisor at a Chicago area high school, an Emergency Room Doctor at a hospital in Indiana, a Menards department manager in Toledo OH., and a student in French and International studies in the University of Ottawa in Canada.
My oldest son is married and we now have 2 grandchildren.
My wife and I became Christians in 1976 and continue active in the faith.
