Mark's Story

Life If your looking at my bio. I guess you know or knew me! Im living Midland, Tx. and have been here eighteen years, I'm a Detective with the Midland Police Dept. and I've got three children, Doug 20yrs,in the Marine Corps; Shelle 16yrs; and Katie 10yrs. My beautiful wife "Mitzi" is the newly elected Midland County Treasurer, and we spend most of our spare time riding motorcycles. God has blessed our lives, and I hope he has yours to. Give me shout, I've always got time to say Hi! School I really enjoyed high school, but I would have changed some things. I probably would have been a little more outgoing and broadened my social interest. I did enjoy all the friendships and the school functions such as the football games, basketball games and even those pep-rallys even though I didn't like them at the time! After leaving El Paso, I went to Sul Ross State, and I started working with the Police Department(at 19 years old). Well, my first summer there I stopped a car up by the college that belonged to Coach Art Howard, he was there for a summer teacher's program. Coach Howard didn't reccognize me so I thought I'd pay him back for all the gags he always played on us.. I told him he had an outstanding arrest warrant for male prostitution. Needless to say his mouth dropped open and he didn't know whether to laugh or cry...so I let him off the hook and took my sunglasses off where he reccognized me, and just busted out laughing...I miss that guy, I thought he was pretty cool.. well that's just one story for the books...maybe we can get back to each other and tell a few more....give me a shout...Take care College Sul Ross, a really great place to go to college, laid back easy...Expand for more
going with some of the nicest people I've ever met. I went straight to work with the University Police (Cops) looking back I wish I would have just stayed a student and done all the fun stuff that went with it. Instead I went to work, got married (big mistake) and became a cop, all at 19 years old.Whew! The good part about starting the career so early is I get to quit early and retire while others have to work another ten years. I go to ole Sully every once in a while, it hasn't changed too much. I like the good memories... Workplace I started my career in Alpine with the police department at the ripe age of 19 years old, then I went to the two man police force in Marfa, Texas, (great place to live) before moving to Midland, Texas. Well Ive been a cop for the past 23 years, and I currently work in Midland where I have been for the past 19 years. I was on Patrol for the first three years and I then went to Detectives where I worked Crimes Against Property, then Auto Theft and then I went to Narcotics where I stayed seven and a half years working undercover. While in Narcotics I became a executive board member of the Texas Narcotic Officer's Assn. and was also the State President for two years. I am now and have been the Juvenile Detective for the police department for the past seven years. I just attended my first retirement seminar...I thought it would depress me, but I can't wait, I can retire in 22 months as of (Sept. of 2004)and I'm one month away from 43 years old. I probably won't though, the money gets alot better if I hang around a few more years, and I'm too damn young to do nothing. I think when I retire I'm gonna run for Justice of the Peace (we'll see)
