Marla Chisholm:  

Life After getting my MA at BGSU, I married Duncan Chisholm in 1974, and we moved to Corpus Christi, TX. Although we also lived briefly in both Houston and Midland, most of our adult lives have been in CC. I am a professor at Del Mar College, a community college with almost 12,000 students. I teach speech classes in the Communication Department, and I have been teaching on the college level since 1986. I really like my job. Del Mar is full of diversity, and about 60% of our students are Hispanic. Most are the first generation of their families to attend college. Many are "at risk." I have found a real calling in teaching and motivating these students. My most recent area of research involves understanding the hidden rules of generational poverty and how that background can interfer with a student's ability to succeed. Duncan and I have three children. Erin was born in 1977. She graduated from Dartmouth College and is now a marketing strategist in NYC. In May, 2006, Erin married Tom, and so Duncan and I are now "in-laws." Cameron was born in 1980. He graduated from Emory University and received his MA at Bradford University in England....Expand for more
