Life After high school graduation, I continued working for the City of Allen Park while attending Henry Ford Community College. After exhausting all my hopes of becoming a police officer due to the economic conditions in the downriver area, in July of 1982, I decided to move to Houston, Texas. I was almost immediately hired by the University of Houston Campus Police Department and sent through the Harris County (Texas) Sheriff’s Department Police Academy. Ten weeks of “yes sir” “no sir” and a very short haircut! After two years on campus, in October of 1984, I applied and was hired by the Houston Police Department and sent through their police (18 more weeks of “yes sir’” “no sir” and a very short haircut) where I am currently employed.
