Marlene's Story

I was a Cheerleader all through High School. Because of me, the Cheerleaders had to get the Sports Insurance just like the Football players etc. Sorry about that girls! I married John Croce 2 yrs. after Graduation, we were married for 10 yrs and got divorced. We adopted a son at birth, his name is Bryan Keith Croce. I remarried and have been with my husband 47 yrs now and we have 2 sons, Michael & Steven. We lost a daughter, Michelle who was born between our 2 sons. I have been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Hazel Park #2449) since 1971. Am a Past Madam President twice. Am a Past Zone Chairman and a Past District Chairman. I have been a State Chairman many times and for the term of 2016-2017. I also am a member of the American Legion and have been for 11 yrs. I just transferred from Post #135, Naples, FL to Post #253 Royal Oak, MI. My husband, Marv has been an Eagle member since 1972 & is also a member of the American Legion same as me. Marv has a heart condition and so do I, but I am doing very well in that department. However, I have been battling cancer since 2010. Been told that my type of cancer can not be cured but can be treated. It will be with me until I die. I have been going through Chemo since Jan. 2014,I have had radiation back in 2010 on both of my arms, Was in remission until just after Christmas of 2013. Jan. 2014 was told it was back stage ...Expand for more
3. This time chemo is the treatment I will be getting. my last treatment will be on March 29, 2016 & 4 wks later will find out if am finally in remission. Then they may put me back on a maintenance program & I sincerely hope it works this time. Maintenance did not work. Started chemo again and am presently in treatment. Last should be on Nov. 21, 2017 then I will have radiation again for the 3rd. time. I try to keep a positive attitude and keep myself busy. I will not allow this "thing" get me down. I have to much to live for and I plan to live!!! I do a lot of traveling for the Eagles, as I am active. I attend all our District Meetings, Zone Conferences, Regional Conferences and State Conventions. Occasionally I attend a National Convention if I am able to health wise and financial wise...lol. I have had both knees replaced, nuts & bolts in my left shoulder and a complete reverse shoulder replacement on the right shoulder. My doctor calls me his "bionic woman". Oh, all most forgot...omg....We have 2 Grandsons. Our eldest is Brandon & he is 24, our youngest is, Mason & he is 11 and we are proud of both of them and love them very much. Brandon lives in Colorado. Mason was into karate and is an Orange Advance Belt holder. He lives in Hazel Park, MI. Is now in Jr. High. My how time flys. Well, that's about all I can say now about my life....what about yours Classmates?
