In May, 2013 while Marsha was in Idaho visiting a friend, she got a phone call that her daughter, Deborah Basquit had been in a car accident and was being flown to Billings Trauma Center for surgery. Travel plans were changed to allow me to get to Billings around noon the next day. We were told it was a "miracle" she survived and her recovery was limited at best. to Craig Rehab Hospital outside Denver for 3 mos. of intense rehab. That was completed in late Aug. and she returned to ND with Ken and her two younger sons. Once there, it was clear that she would no longer be able to stand the cold weather, so the family decided to move to FL. Ken's older son lived in Brandon, so he was able to find them a nice rental.
In February, 2014 we offered to take Debbie into our home for a short time to allow Ken to get a job and resume her therapy, In March, she moved to Cape Coral. Ken and the boys came when they could to visit. She slowly got hooked up with the Drs. she needed and started OT and PT regularly. Everyone was astounded with her progress!
She had one set back due to pressure sores on her heels and was in the hospital a week.
In Sept. she heard from Ken that he no longer wanted to be her husband and thought they should "go their own way" but stay "friends"...she was crushed as well were we. After it all sunk in, she got that "fighting" spirit back and decided okay, I'll get a divorce from you. What we thought was to be a short stay has turned into a long stay and as long as we are able to care for her, we will do whatever it takes to keep her well.
We are in the process of selling our condo and home to be able to purchase a bigger home here in Cape Coral.
