Don's Story

I attended MPHS my Sophomore, Junior and the start of my Senior years but had to move to Oregon with my family in October 1970. After high school I spent 4 years in the Air Force from 1972 thru 1976 but after basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas I spent the rest of my time as a Communications Specialist at a small Radar Station about an hour east of San Diego in the Laguna Mountains. I married in 1972 and we had two sons who are now 39 and 36. My first wife and I divorced in 1981 and I married my wife, (the love of my life) of 33 years, Teresa, in 1982. We live just outside the small town of Oakland, OR. After the Air Force I went into Police Work as a patrol officer in Roseburg, OR. I quit in 1980 in an effort to save my first marriage but as mentioned above that did not work. I worked as a disc jockey for a small country station where I met Teresa. I went back to the police department in 1982 and worked patrol till 1985 when I seriously injured my back during an arrest. After a back surgery my doctor would not let me continue in police work so the department let me go in 1986. Oregon Worker's Comp laws suck and you can't get a pension unless you are 100% disabled. I was deemed only 35% disabled. After going back to radio for awhile I went back to work for the City in the Finance Department as an Account Clerk. We moved to Eugene, OR in 1997 to try to find better career opportunities. I worked as an Account Manager for a large printing firm till the injury I suffered in 1985 aggravated. I have had a total of 5 back surgeries and have had 2 morphine pumps implants since 2002. I am now considered 100% disabled. I get...Expand for more
around OK with a cane and spend the days reading, taking walks and doing small computer projects. I hung out with our Dog Snickers who we called the daughter we never had. (We had to put our beloved dog Snickers to rest in April 2014.) My wife partially retired in January 2015 and we took a 2 week Panama Canal Cruise. Incredible. We are considering selling our home here and moving to a small town called Loreto about 400 miles north of Cabo San Lucas in Baja California, Mexico. We are in the planning stages now and have slowly started getting rid of lots of STUFF. We are headed to Boston for a few weeks in September 2015. I played El Lobo (Muy Guapo) in Jr. year Spanish with Fran Sanchez playing the title role of La Caperucita Roja. I remember being quite the jokester. I had a large automobile paper route and helped a lot with paper drives and played basketball during lunch with names I can't remember. I was a decent athlete but not quite good enough to make the school teams and actually play. I was good friends with Robert Munoz who passed away in early 2012, Ron Lussier, Ron Cisneroz, Mike Vargas and got along well in class with Ginnie Gillette whose mom was the English teacher and Martha Glass who sat next to me in Biology. Our two sons are doing well. The older son is the Senior Negotiator for Local 555 or the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. He lives in Portland, OR. Our younger son is in Finance with Hertz Auto Sales Group in Bend, OR. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. You won't find my photo in the Serior yearbook so you'll have to look in the Junior Yearbook. The Best to All of You
