Martha's Story
I have been married twice and divorced twice. I always thought I would leave this area and I am still here. I have two sons, 28 & 25 yrs old who are living and my daughter died over a year ago. She was 17 and a junior in high school when she completed suicide. it's been tough. I have a 3 1/2 year old granddaughter named Elisena, when I was introduced to her as Grandma Marta, she could not say Grandma Marta and her pronounciation came out as Nemena Yata, so the name has stuck. My Dad passed away 7 years ago, and my Mom passed away this past June. I think my daughter's death just broke her heart. al. I really like what I do in helping people with their basic civil rights. In addition, there were times I would take on a part time job to bring in extra income, as a single Mom and with an exhusband who was not responsible, I had to make sure my kids basic needs were met. I am now involved with suicide prevention and awareness and supporting others who are surviving suicide, like I am and involved with an organization called Mujeres Unidas (United Women) for those who did not take Spanish. I was very touched that they established a scholorship in my daughter's name, Sarah Lisa Guerrero. I never thought I would want to go to a Moorhead High class reunion, since I was very happy to be done with Mhd High, but my curiousity has gotten to me. Thanks.
