Martha's Story

Update May 2019 hmmm, that Keto way of life, or as much as possible carnivore, that I hav been tossing around is prob the only way that I will show up at our reunion. 6 weeks. We’ll see. Wonder who will show up this time. Might make a difference in deciding if I go. I do hav 4 grandkids now. Update April 2016. Last daughter is a senior in high school. She is turning out very responsible, partially because I work so many hours that if she doesn't do something, it doesn't get done. She has as many college credits as is possible, before graduating high school, but her college will be 3 hours from her boyfriend's, so that will be interesting. Never seen anyone spend so much time on perfectly straight hair! My granddaughter that was born at 1 lb 13 oz is almost 2 (shouldn't be 2 until Aug 11th, but was born waaaay early.) Anyway, she just got over a bad case of RSV that put her in the hospital for 6 days, so she lost so much weight that she is now back up to only 14 lb 13 oz. She will have surgery soon to insert a 'button' into her tummy, so she can be fed additional nutrition thru a tube directly into her stomach, to supplement what she normally eats. It will be 'interesting' because her parents leave for Jamaica soon after the button is placed, and guess who gets to babysit? (ME!) And I have to learn how to replace the button if it happens to pop out, which leaves a hole from outside air, directly into the stomach. Oh joy. And the reining horse that my 18 yr old rides, hasn't recovered enough from a sickness, to be used this year, so we need a new horse, in less than a month. Thinking about spending a week in the mountains at a cabin with girlfriends only (and beer) for my 60th birthday. How WEIRD. We are 60! That is seriously old. Still....mentally, I have reached maybe 30 finally? Naaaaaah, 26 max! Update 2015, a bit anyway- Have 3 grandchildren, 3 horses and one dog, too. Still working, too much stress. Wondering about immortality, like Picasso, at least we know who he was! But, hmmmm, if what we remember about him, is what he would like being remembered for? My likes? Popcorn (buttered), beer (enough) friends, good books, family. Next chapter Dec 2014 - I'm still around. From what I read (really recently), your body reflects what your mind believes. So....since I just read that...my body hasn't caught up yet, but I was thinking about it. If I had to pick an age, what age do I FEEL like? 28. Younger than that is definitely too young, and 30 is an old person. Anyone else feel this way? I feel lucky - My children didn't have children until recently, so they were younger, longer, and so was I. I guess we are catching up, tho. My 2nd daughter had her 2nd daughter. (long scary story) - she was born at 1 lb 13 oz, verry ...Expand for more
early. Doing well so far tho. And my first daughter is having her first son in Feb of 2015.Third daughter lives in Brooklyn, and 4th is 17, a junior in high school. (one more girl to survive). Interests? I always read. I've started learning about electronics, asked for and got a 200 project kit for Christmas. we will see if I can fix our garage door light. On the garage door operator, there is a resistor burnt out? If you can't replace the resistor, you have to buy the whole 'board. That is my life today. Short update to story below - survived the first Homecoming dance with the youngest (freshman) daughter! Her name is Desirae (Desi for short). We got away without showing her dad the dress before she went. He thinks she is still a young child....because no one else is at home to compare her to. Her older sisters got more privileges than she does. So a short, tight, cute strapless dress, 3" heels, and make-up probably would have killed him - or he would have made her wear something frumpy, or made her stay home. She showed him pictures the next day or so, and life is still good. Fine - update the old stuff. Feeling younger than the last story anyway. Finally one grandchild on the way. We are all voting for red hair. Still have 4 daughters - down to five horses, two dogs, no cats, one fish, and two 'water dogs' that started out as bait, looking like 7" dragons...huge tadpole things, then morphed into a total land lizard!!! That is a science lesson somehow. Really an economic lesson....buy bait under $2 each, watch them start changing, then have to buy a lizard habitat! Youngest daughter just turned 15. Too close to school to drive. Made the dance team, so she has to be at school by 6:30 AM for dance practice, and with volleyball after, needs to be picked up around 6:45 PM. Had weird health problems with 3 out of 4 daughters. Those three need to be totally gluten free. It's normal to deal with that now, but it was difficult in the beginning, trying to feed them without any type of wheat, barley or rye...no bread or noodles?? How does that work??? We adapted. Spent the weekend boating and camping up by Yankton, SD. My husband and I still design and build custom homes, but we are thinking retirement sounds like more fun. Husband sold his 2010 white with orange stripe Camaro, but he still has the orange with white stripe 1972 Camaro. Those two looked funny in the garage together. The new one was really massive compared to the size of the old one. The old one SOUNDed better though, and you could see better out of the windows. I got a unicycle for Christmas last year. That will challenge your balance!! Anyone want to try? I will provide the beer....................................
