Martha's Story
Life
Married my high school sweetheart, Ruben Lujan, who graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. Married at Sacred Heart June 28, 1958, moved to Alhambra, California, began our family in 1960 with Eric, 1961 was Toni Marie, 1963 Gary and 1964 Karen. Worked with Ruben in Cursillos, then as team couple in Marriage Encounter for 7 years,did contemplative prayer retreats based on the Ignatian Exercises for 10 years, decided on one more child and adopted identical twin boys 1975 (9 days old) and got pregnant one more time Phillip 1976. God has a sense of humor! Went back to school in 1983 with Ruben and earned my B.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling and continued on for my M.S. in Counselor Educa...Expand for more
tion, licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist, adjunct professor at CalState L.A. for 18 years in addition to my private practice. We are now grandparents to 7 and great-grandparents to 3. Decided we're too young to 'just retire' so we began an adventure...sold our home and became nomads! Gave away all our furniture and other belongings to our kids, kept just our clothes and now we are traveling. We may settle in Aguascalientes, Mexico! From there, we'll travel and visit our kids and return again. This is the third phase of our life...first was childhood to marriage, second was marriage and raising a family, and now the third is our adventure together. Wish us luck and keep us in prayer.
