Martha's Story
Busy, busy, busy. After high school graduation I went to the University of Redlands on a full scholarship where I received a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish with a minor in English. I had the opportunity to travel as a student both to D.C. for a semester and to Spain, which allowed me to see most of Europe. Then I went to UC Riverside on a full fellowship where I received an M.A. in U.S. History. I went into teaching after UCR (started at MVHS) and moved to Rosemead HS, and while teaching I received my teaching credentials from CSU San Bernardino in Spanish, US Government and US History. After this I returned to the University of Redlands to earn a 2nd M.A. in Education with credentials in counseling and administration. Upon completing this degree I left the classroom and became a dean of students at South Pasadena High School. tly on a leave of absence from work to do research for my dissertation, which is why I have some free time to snoop around on-line and look into finding out what my high school classmates are up to. I also was able to return to D.C. this summer to receive training through the U.S. Dept of Education on the use of a couple educational national databases, which I am using for my research. I am married to a wonderful man, Carlos, who is a software engineer and extremely supportive of my educational goals. He was raised in Costa Rica, where we travel at least once a year to disconnect from the world and hike deep in the rain forest away from all signs of civilization. We have 2 dogs that we rescued. They are a lab and greyhound mix and we live in Long Beach, CA.
UPDATE 12/29/09:
Still working on the Ph.D at Claremont, and have cleared two of three qualifying papers, dissertation to follow shortly. In the mean time, we were blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby girl on 9/21/09. We can't believe it, at our age. We are having a blast with her. Her name is Cassia.
