Martin's Story

Do I look back on my time at St. Helena's with affection? I'm of reminded of the old Henny Youngman joke, "I've been married for 19 wonderful years.... Actually married for 25 years but only 19 were wonderful!" Honestly, I have to admit that any problems I had at St Helen's were of my own making- I remember one Brother - I won't mention his name, but he was the shortest Brother in the school - about five feet four inches tall. He used to prance around the head of the classroom and spin around so his cassock twirled up like a girl's skirt. He HATED me. I made DAMN sure of that. I wouldn't have had it any other way. e were graduated, almost all of them left the order. How did they do it? Did they invent an excuse, e.g. My mother is ill - Then simply disappear. Or did they stand up in front of the Brotherhood and express their thoughts, conflicts, intentions? Did they remain friends after returning to secular life? Most of all, did their concept of Faith and Religion changes? Contact me at martin.glynn(at)gmail(dot)com. A little about my life - I became a computer programmer specializing in Medical Applications - I did well. My best accomplishment in life: I was a good father. I have two successful sons and 6 grandsons (no girls) It may have been divine intervention or just dumb luck - whatever the case, I had a lot of it - starting with the fact that on 9/11 I was on the 84th Fl of WTC#2 when the first plane hit. - I made it out with 8 minutes to spare - I wrote a tribute to the woman police officer who perished while evacuating the building Moira Smith. see MoiraSmith(dot)com.
