Marcelino's Story

11:30 AM, Sunday, August 23, 2015 Greetings, thanks for reading this posting. Black Lives Matter! Underwent cataract surgery on 5/27/2015 and on 6/24/2015 at Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto. Vision is 20:20 in both eyed with no residual pain. After 54 years, no more contacts or glasses. Recommend this procedure for those of us who want better vision. C.V. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: During the past 50 years, I spent my entire adult life in public service working for government (county/municipal, federal, and state), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and non-profit corporations. While my life has not been flawless, it has been nevertheless a fascinating journey beginning with our 1965 Graduation Ceremony at Franklin Senior High School. My late Parents, Robert and Jane Ferrer, and my Sister, Anna Martinez Fernandez, were/are my loving, life partners who have helped me deal with adversity. . . Growing up in a Roman Catholic, first generation immigrant farm-worker household wasn't easy because: 1. English was a second language for my parents who came from two different parts of the Philippines 2. Our family resided in unincorporated Laurel Farms, then, a largely impoverished area of South Stockton 3. Neither of my parents was able to help or to encourage me with my high school studies 4. I found myself often alone, direction-less, friendless, and very unprepared for school and for learning and 5. PTSD (1953) and the consequences of subsequent childhood, adolescent, and early adult sublimation until effective mid-life therapy intervention coupled with courage, self-compassion, and connectivity with other like-minded wholehearted human beings. Entering college in 1965, I found that I was ill prepared me for the academic rigors of university life. I struggled mightily to earn my initial AA and BA degrees. I spent more time as a student activist than I did in the classroom. Determined to turn my life around, I went to night school at several colleges/universities before successfully completing my Certificate, BS, MPA, and MS-HCA degrees. Diligently, I learned to concentrate upon my studies, to write effectively, to think critically, and to overcome the psycho-social "baggage" of alienation, anomie, and a poverty of spirit. Over the past five decades, I bettered myself and became the person I am today. Thus, I am a more effective human being as I begin the twilight stage of my life cycle. Because of the diverse career opportunities and good income offered to me by my former employers, I traveled extensively throughout the world. Here are the specific details: After graduating in 1965, I had a varied and successful career achieved by serving the public interest as advocated by John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his memorable Presidential Inaugural Address of 1961: 1. Together, we provided the background research for our CDP delegates who, in turn, crafted the national Democratic Party Platforms of 2000, 2002, and 2004. c.
