Martin Lawson:

CLASS OF 1972
Crisfield, MD

Martin's Story

My current age is 55. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be in flying cars. I was so completely WRONG. I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a cool idea. As it turns out, they were WRONG. I share my home with my partner, which I find saves both time and money.. Well, obviously that "Story Wizard" just flat out sucks. Let's try again: I settled in the Washington, D.C., area after college and have been there since, currently in Arlington, Va. I work as a writer and editor for a trade group, doing their newsletters, manuals, and other printed and web information for our members as well as external communications for our industry supporters and consumers. Light travel to trade shows, but mostly deskbound, writing stuff or editing others' stuff and working with designers and photogrpahers to put it tall together. Other than funerals I don't get back to Crisfield much anymore, which is, admittedly not a good way to visit the hometown. I hope there will be another reunion for the Class of '72. They were good days back then, and even ...Expand for more
a skinny non athlete such as myself could and did have lots of fun. I hope the kids are as nice with all their classmates. There really wasn't a whole lot of strife between classmates and most people seemed to have plenty of friends... Attending the basketball games was a hoot, as was the chemistry Saturdays up at Salisbury State. My favorite teacher was Miss Hope Cullen, but others come to mind too. Mr. Edwin's great sense of humor; Mable Jones and her frequent math "checks" -- her term for pop quizzes. And many more. A quick shout out to Keith,(Sammy, RIP), Yogi(RIP), Billy Lohmeyer, Jack Merklein, Casey Todd, Lank (RIP), Becky, Debbie, Ruth, Gina, Phil, and more. I hope none of the locals bought the first round of those condos at the inflated prices. And I hope the Arch Bridge and the wonderful vistas are still there. I hope too, that kids are able to drive around and have a beer or two and not be run over by crazed city drivers. Our town was safe and let us explore at bit and try out our wings without serious consequences. It's my wish that all kids could grow up in a such a nice small town.
