Life
The Milestones, The Mission, and The Vision = D.A.D.S.
Mission: To empower and connect fathers who may have lost sight of the rewards that fathering can give.
Vision: To provide fathers from all walks of life with the knowledge, encouragement, and support they need to become positive, active and productive fathers.
Marvin Charles' childhood encouraged him to take charge of his heartfelt desires to see that each father has the incentive and opportunity to be a real father to his children. Through experiencing the challenges of being fatherless and also at one time not being a father to his own children (see Children's program comforted siblings while parents struggled to break their drug addiction), Marvin has a driving desire to seek and avail himself to others facing some of the same dilemmas.
Marvin has been recognized as having a compelling story that touches many. His story has aired on several local and national television stations over the past 3 years (ABC's Good Morning America, Lif...Expand for more
etime's Beyond Chance, and others). He has been featured on the front page of the Seattle Times on 3 different occasions. He is regularly asked to speak at fundraising events for the United Way and Childhaven, at community events all over the country, at Head Start seminars, and he was the keynote speaker at the Administration for Children and Families Pacific Hub, Working Together to Strengthen Families Conference,(luncheon) where he received a standing ovation from over 400 children and family advocates. Marvin has met with Governor Locke on fatherhood issues, and has testified before the Washington State Senate Judiciary Committee and the King County Executive Committee on Fatherhood.
Today Marvin and his lovely wife Jeanett care for 4 of Marvin's 7 children and reside in Seattle, Washington.
Marvin's Dream is to see fathers become a more active part in the lives of their children and families. The DADS program works to give fathers the support and knowledge they need to become successful fathers.
