Marvin's Story
When I graduated, I joined the Navy. I was stationed in southern California. I was on a ship called the USS Badger DE1071 (a destroyer escort). We steamed (sailed) all up and down the west coast and mexico. The early 70's were pretty wild in so. Cal. I saw moonies, Hare Krischna and of course Hippies all over the place! It was quite an awakening for a 19 yr old from
Bloomington MN, but I loved it! Our ship eventually steamed over seas. Now I don't remember a whole lot of my time in the Navy, but I will never forget my 21st birthday. April 10 1972 we pulled into DaNang harbor Viet Nam!! I was a little concerned, I'm sure you've heard of the Viet Nam War. I made it through just fine and later that year I got out of the Navy and headed back home. Oh ya I did get an Honorable discharge. After I was back home, I went to Normandale Jr college for 2 semesters in the evening and I worked full time at Thermo King during the day. I was way to immature for school and I really didn't like Thermo King ( I did metal grinding and it was a dirty filthy job). So Naturally I thought I would sell insurance ( I think everybody has at one time or another in their life sold ins.). It lasted only a few months. One day, shortly after my insurance career, I was looking in the mirror thinking what can you do? and hairstyling popped into my head. I had never thought before in my life. I ended up going to Mpls Vo Tech downtown and got my liscense in May of 1974 and went to work for the " Barbers Hairstyling for Men and Women ". Then about 4 mos later 7 of us from that company started "7 so 8th for Hair" very hip salon in the center of downtown mpls. In March of 78 I met my wife Penny and in may of 1980 we were married. In April 1983 we had our 1st girl!! Elisabeth Laure'n. In the summer of 1984 we moved to Tulsa OK. Then in 1985 we had our 2nd girl!! Krista Marie. Then in 1989 we had our 3rd and last girl!! Sophia Michelle. I've got to say that the weather in OK is really great! Most of the time in the winter there is no snow or at the least very small amounts. You can play golf year round in Tulsa. We have a day spa called European Spa and Salon, located in the south part of Tulsa. We're on the web if you want to look u...Expand for more
