Marvin's Story

Life I'm retired from Tinker, married with 1 son and 1 step-son, and living in Midwest City. I'm into genealogy, photo archiving, and web pages. Look for the Minco web page at (they won't let me show the URL. Just do a web search on "Minco OK Community Page") From the town page, you can go over to the left side and click on "Alumni Assoc" and get into the MHS alumni web site. I had put a lot more material on here earlier, but Classmates took it off during their reorganization of their site. CLARK AFB, PI: In particular, I told of how, at Clark AFB in the Philippines, the base swimming pool was right across the street from our barracks, and we could cross the street in our bathing suits any time the pool was open. Then, at Clark AFB, there was the Thursday morning "surprise" drills, where all in the barracks had to get up at 4 or 5 AM and go out in 2 1/2 ton trucks with our carbines to some make believe "perimeter", and lay down for a while til they decided we could go back. That's why many stayed overnight off base -- to avoid the Thursday "surprise". In my MOS, we spent our duty time in a little hut next to the runway. Saw a spectacular fire one night. An F100 took off and dropped its ...Expand for more
fuel tank that lit up 300 yards of the runway in a huge fire. We thought the F100 had crashed until we saw it pull up into view. Not much excitement there, except one night when our radio equipment went quiet. The locals had tried to steal about 300 yards of cable from near out hut. We jumped in a 3/4 ton with carbines to check out what was going on, and although the locals had collected the cable in a pile, they didn't get it across the fence before we got there. Then there was the great "Captain G" incident. (Name witheld out of sympathy). Everyone in the barracks was called out of bed about 4AM to the day room. No one allowed to leave until the guilty (?) party turned in the stolen property. Ultraviolet lights inspected hands to show planted markers No one admitted stealing anything. Hours went by. Finally, Captain G told what was going on. A decoy billfold had been planted in the day room and it was gone. SOMEBODY took it. One guy piped up, "My gosh, Captain G! I found that and turned it in to the night clerk last night!" They found the night clerk, and he confirmed the turn-in. A red faced Captain G dismissed all. Sadly there are several more stories about the hapless Captain G.
