Mary's Story

After high school graduation, I attended HBU for a year on a scholarship. It was a bit strange attending a school that was smaller than high school. I transferred to and eventually graduated from UH Central Campus. I worked my way through school. I baby sat, worked at a small manufacturing company and finally worked part-time at Foley's in Memorial City before graduation. I continued working there after college graduation. That's where I met my husband Art. After Foley's I worked for a small store called Prints Charming. I did some substitute teaching but eventually decide to pursue the entrepreneurial route and started my own business. My husband and I married in 19...Expand for more
82. We did not have children. My father died suddenly in 1983. I have been working as an independent interior designer since 1984. I have been and am still involved in various volunteer and professional organizations. Art and I are actively involved in our neighborhood civic association. Art and I lived for many years in the Oak Forest area. We bought a home ¿inside the loop¿ in 1999. Unfortunately we flooded during Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 and spent the next several years, repairing, elevating and renovating our house. I don¿t know if we¿ll ever have all of our projects done but we do enjoy our house and neighbors and I have even gotten into gardening lately.
