Mary's Story
Life
After graduation I returned to Portland to live with my mother. In 1972 I married Bernie Bendel, and we were married for 26 years. We have two children, Bonnie Jean, and Bennie. I have two grandchildren by Bonnie. In 1980 we moved to the city of Carlton, 8 miles north of McMinnville. We bought a small grocery store, and in 1985 we sold it. I went to work for the Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, and Bernie went to work for the City of Carlton. In 1999 Bernie and I divorced, and I bought a home in Yamhill, three miles away from Carlton. I still work for the postal service, and I love it. I have a friend that I now share my life with named Jim.

(20 of them!) Bernie and I were very involved in the community. I spent 7 years on the city council, and then 6 years as Mayor. Bernie was, and still is, involved in the local chapter of the Am. Legion, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce.
Our children are spread around, with Bonnie living close to us in McMinnville with her husband Jody, and Ben just moved from a job with Compaq in Houston, to a job with National Instruments in Austin Texas. He graduated from OSU with an engineering degree in 1998.
I am not currently involved in any form of City gov't or otherwise, and live a peaceful life now. I love my job, working in my gardens, my animals, 3 cats and a dog, and my family.
