Mary's Story
First crush... Glen Marino, 2nd grade.... that swooping wave in his hair over the forehead did me in. Life was simple back then.
I always wanted to be a teacher. Mrs. Frahlick at Sparke School, gave Nancy Bailey and me the opportunity to teach science lessons to 2nd graders. I wish she knew how much she opened our minds and inspired us.
From ITHS, I went to the University of San Francisco, SF State and got my teaching degree with an English major/Spanish minor at UNF in Jacksonville, Fla. I married a Naval Officer in 1975 and saw the world. California was home, though, where our 3 children were born, each one in a different part of the state because the Navy kept moving us! e been creating art all my life. In the 80's I started a small calligraphy graphics company and sold to stores and large arts&craft shows around the state. In the 90's I designed and sold jewelry. For 23 years I worked in the contract design business with architects and designers. Today, after retirement, my side-gig has turned into a consuming passion. I create ocean-inspired art now, with sea glass, resin, shells, anything I can get my hands on.. You can see BeachcombersStudio on FB or Instagram.
In 2011, I bought a house near the beach in northern San Diego. One of my new neighbors introduced me to his dad, and that was that! We married in July 2015 and now enjoy our 10 grandchildren, who live close by... 8 of them within walking distance!
Life is good.
I hope yours is too!
