Mary's Story
Life
Hello all! I attended FCHS from '75-79 while my dad was stationed in DC. I worked several part-time jobs during high schoolÂat HardeeÂs by TysonÂs Corner, at the Jefferson Library on Arlington Blvd, and I had a morning paper route delivering the Wash Post.
At FCHS, I remember watching proudly as our awesome marching band performed; remember Keith ÂDo It Pruitt and the famous guillotine? I remember the winter Â78 football game between FCHS and Fort Hunt. I went to the game as a birthday/sleepover with a group of friends from the opposing school. I was razzed when I sat on the Fort Hunt side and cheered for Falls Church, and was further razzed all night when we whipped Fort Hunt. Oh, I recall the blizzard of Â79: shoveling all that snow, trying to deliver newspapers in it, and "snow days." 2 of my close friends in high school were Stacey Taylor and Patrick McNamara. I havenÂt kept in touch with them, although I do still write to that girl from Fort Hunt....Expand for more
After graduation, my dad was transferred to Hawaii. There I attended Chaminade University and then UH, but I grew bored and left before getting a degree. I started working for the Defense Dept in 1982, spending 2 years with the Navy, then switching to Army. IÂve been overseas most of the time, but recently spent 2 years in Miami, FLA. With refresher courses in the evenings, my high school Spanish came back quickly!
IÂve never married and have no kids, but IÂve got nephews, a niece, and several godchildren. I travel often and visit family/friends throughout the U.S. A combination of shyness and embarrassment about being fat made high school a less-than-happy experience for me. I enjoy my life now, although IÂve never managed to lose the extra weight. ItÂs hard to believe graduation was nearly 22 years ago. IÂve never returned for a reunion, but I have visited friends in northern VA and DC over the years.
I wish the best for everyone from the class of Â79.
