Mary Erekson:

CLASS OF 1973
Deptford, NJ

Mary's Story

I actually didn't graduate. I was having too much fun and things got away from me. I did however get my GED and went onto a university in Provo, Utah. I moved out to Utah in 1987 with my son, Dave. It took me five years and a lot of hard work, but I finally did graduate. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I met my husband out here, his name is Charles Erekson, a super nice guy. He accepts me warts and all. He has been a good friend to my son Dave and we have four other children, four boys and one girl in all. Life has been really good to me and I can't complain. I am still in the workforce and loving it. I teach at an elementary school in Spanish Fork, Utah. I will probably continue to teach until they make me leave. We have a nice home with the Wasatch Mountains in our back yard. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, reading and studying, being with my family, biking around my neighbor and visiting with neighbors. I serve in my community as a tutor for kids with reading difficulties. I really like being of use and have always wanted to make the world jus...Expand for more
t a little bit better. That's my goal everyday. I have a lot of good memories of my school days. Elementary school was New Sharon and Lake Tract. Monongahela was my jr. high and of course Deptford HS. I can remember most of you and have really enjoyed seeing your posts. I love to explore old abandoned towns and indian ruins. I loved the styles of our time. My sister and I used to shop at second hand stores, looking for old shoes and coats. The coats we would make over to fit our style. We wore our hair long and parted in the middle. I loved wearing hip hugger jeans with bell bottoms and driving my volkswagen all over town. My sister and I used to get into trouble sometimes because we just loved wandering off and finding other things to do during school time. One time we were caught swimming at the pond behind the high school. The police took us back to school that day. One day we were treed by a couple of free range pigs. We only ever got ourselves into trouble. We did however, hold ourselves back academically. Oh well, that is how we learn I guess.
