Mary's Story
Life
I taught at Monroe Junior High where I was Math science coordinator and then math department head for 18 years from 1967-1985. I then taught at Chamberlain for 5 years. In 1980, I began teaching part-time at Hillsborough Community College. In 1989, I moved to Marietta. I taught 1/2 year at McNair Junior High as well as concurrently at Dekalb College part-time. I gained fulltime employment at Dekalb college in 1990. I have worked there ever since. I am currently Assistant Professor of Mathematics and hope to be promoted at Associate professor in 2001. I teach a wide spectrum of mathematics subjects from learning support math through Precalculus. The Precalculus is online. I am currently working on a new online course College Algebra. It will be online by Spring of 2001. While I lived at home the majority of the time with mother and Susan Chassee, another Plant High graduate(1966), mathematics was not my only interest. to believe that my students came to value themselves as individuals much more through my guidance and influence. In addition, I would hope that my years as member of St. John's Episcopal Church and my contributions to it and the church family would be of merit. When I moved to Marietta with Ginny Elliott, I had no job. I think that it was my faith that landed me the best job a person could have. I have truly grown through my association with the wonderful people at Georgia Perimeter College formerly Dekalb College. They have supported me through the best of times and the worst of times, Mother's death in 1993 and Ginny's death in 1999. It is said that life is about relationships. I have been struggling to master those with my God, my family, my friends, my coworkers and my students. With God's help, I am getting closer to understanding what it is all about. We are only growing older. But we are getting better. God's blessings on each of you.
