Mary's Story
Life
Can it really be 30 years since we graduated from High School? Much has happend in my life, most of it good. Met the love of my life (Dan Randel)at the Dutch Goose and we were married in 1980. Our daughter, Makenzie was born in 1983. My last job in Topeka was with Bank IV as a Trust Officer. In 1994 an offer came my way to move to Chicago to work for First National Bank of Chicago. We let the movers pack us, the realtor sell the house and off to Chicago we went. What a great adventure. We were having the time of our life in the big city! Then the bigee hit us, Dan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July of 1997 and died March of 1998. My world...Expand for more
fell apart and shattered! But life goes on. I have made many good friends here, the job market has been strong and my daughter was in a wonderful school. I decided to stay here rather than move back home to be with family. Its been hard being a single parent but Makenzie and I have grown to be very close. I now face her leaving for college. We are both thrilled that she will be a Freshman at KU starting August 2001. I met a man who lost his wife to renal cell carcinoma around the same time I lost Dan. We married September of 1999 and are making a life together.
