Mary's Story
I was so happy to leave Lynbrook High School. I never felt comfortable there. After high school, I graduated from SUNY Oswego with a degree in elementary education. While there I was a college cheerleader, joined a sorority, met my husband and had the time of my life! I graduated in three years by attending summer school, and was married soon after graduation. I taught 2nd grade for 5.5 years when I retired to raise my family. I have three children... Gregory who has a PhD in biochemistry and researches at the University of Rochester, Christine who lives in Buffalo and is a registered pharmacist, and Allison who lives in Skaneateles NY and is an OB-GYN. growing up I did a great deal of substitute teaching. My husband is now retired but was a high school chemistry and physics teacher. My interests include music especially musical theatre. I have been very active with my local community theatre group. I've enjoyed playing the leads in many musicals. Some of my favorites are Dolly in "Hello Dolly," Mame in "Mame," Mother Superior in "Nunsense," and Frau Schneider in "Cabaret." I haven't been too active in theatre recently as there aren't too many roles for 65 year old women!!! I have a part time job working in a small family owned appliance store in my home town. It is the perfect job for me now as it keeps me busy and in touch with many people. I don't make a pile of money though!
