Mary's Story

My husband Ken and I lived for 30 years in the San Francisco Bay area, where we raised our son and daughter. Our most productive and happy work years were also part of our city-by-the-bay experience. Ken was an IT Project Mgr. for UAL (so lots of travel to visit Ken's family in New Zealand and Australia); while I found my niche working as a Retail Loss Prevention Investigator and later, District Supervisor. Retirement finds us living in the Sonora Desert, 25 miles South of Phoenix (and our daughter's family, which now includes 2 dearly loved grandsons)! We've settled down in the city of Maricopa, AZ; not to be confused with Maricopa County, known for having "the Toughest Sheriff in America," Joe Arpaio, with his pink tent city. Inmates are particularly reluctant to return there. I'll insert info. about post-high school education out of order, as it happened "out of order," compared to ideal scholastic planning. For me, though, the timing was perfect. I studied at San Mateo and Skyline Community Colleges, aligning coursework with career building. The end result was happily achieved and is addressed earlier in my bio...Expand for more
. When retirement arrived, I went kicking and screaming. I loved my job, dang it! Relocating to Maricopa came fast on the heels of retirement; and adjusting in synch with such major lifestyle changes was a pretty good trick! It's tough to beat SF for beauty and multi-cultural metropolitan vibes. I think that the key for me was finally opening my heart and my eyes to the beauty that surrounds us now, in this quite different time and space. Metro-Phoenix is a beautiful 30-minute drive straight through Ak Chin and Gila River Reservation lands. The low profile, Sierra Estrella mountain range is nearby to the West and offers breathtakingly colorful sunsets on the drive home "from town." It's not unusual to spot a lone wild horse foraging for food or water. When the spirits are with us; once in a blue moon, we get to see not just one or two, but a herd of 40 or 50 wild horses kicking-up dust, racing across the valley's floor. To see an Arizona sunset over any of its many mountain ranges calls to mind the words of "America the Beautiful:" - "FOR PURPLE MOUNTAIN MAJESTIES." Life is Good! Mary (OGLE) Davis
