Mary's Story
Life
I have 4 children. I have lived in Arizona for 19 years. I work as a Licensing Specialist in the field of foster care for a faith based Social Service Agency. My kids ages range from 8-18, so I am kept very busy. Though I miss California at times (and still visit often) I love the Southwest and especially love how affordable it is to live here. The sunsets and the beautiful scenic mountain ranges aren't bad either. I consider myself a very blessed individual.
College
I went to ELAC for two years and basically put my eduacation on hold. In 1987, when I moved to AZ, I decided to go back to school to get my BSW (Bachelor of Social Work). I attended ASU for 6 years. I went full time for a few semesters and then...Expand for more
part time for many years, after the kids arrived. I graduated in 1993, grabbed that diploma and went home to take care of my babies........and never regretted it for a moment. :-)
Workplace
I have worked many thankless jobs in my work career. But I went back to school in 1987 when I moved to Arizona and got my degree in Social Work at ASU. My theory in life is that it is never too late to have the best job in the world - even at 47!! I don't make tons of money, but at the end of each day I feel like I have contributed to the well-being of kids and I have helped the foster parents in this program feel like they are making a significant difference in the life of a child as well. It is a very cool non-profit organization.
