Mary's Story

Life Went to La Sierra High School, 1975 graduate. Married my best friend Dave, had my first Daughter "Angela" in 1978. Met my 2nd husband, Had "Brandon" & "Corey" in 1983. 1986 met Greg..Which was "the man" I should have met first! but life is all about walking down the path of experience. I had "Loren" in 1987. All my children were born with red hair and green eyes like me. Went to work for the Department of Corrections. Became a Correctional Officer in 1990. Worked at CIM (Chino). Found out my husband had a daughter! in 1987..She was already 3 and 1/2!! We obtained custody of this little beauty "Amber" When she was just about old enought to start kindergarden. Are you counting???...that makes 5 kids!!! Transfered to CCI (Tehachapi,CA) Bought our first home, made Correctional Sergeant in 92. Life is good, Baby grandaughter born in December of 1999, Yes I was present for the birth! Mom (Angela) did great! Tragedy struck in January 2000. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning nearly takes the lives of two children. (Corey and Loren).Accident makes headline news, children fight for their lives... However, My God is an Awesome God! Children recover. Brandon bless me with my first grandson in 2003. He was born in Japan on base, and yes I did travel half way around the world to see him born! Brandon married his high school sweet heart Sarah... Back in 1991 assaulted by inmates at CIM. Injury continued to cause problems throughout and in 1999 my little body gave out on me! Presently,TTD...temporarily totally disabled, but trying to get well. My basic personality is the same, I still love to help people, I am an animal lover, and my photography which was doing good at 16 continues to be pretty good! My pictures have been published lots of times. Have not changed much since high school. (not so skinny...some other nice changes..) I spend most of my time at home. I love to do research, and take pictures.I am really good at fighting for kids' rights when it come to Leaning Disabilities, and IEP's. I do birth and bonding photography when I am up for it. And other photograpy. So... write me, take care and remember. Tomorrow is promised to no one. So make today count! Loyal to my friends. Love my husband of 17 years. Kids are all grown, Brandon is in the Airforce as an Air Traffic Controller. Presently stationed in Japan. Angela became a Respitory Therapist, Amber just completed Basic Training in the Army. ew to Japan to be there for the birth) Life is good. Grandkids are the best thing since hostess cupcakes. My children are my life. My best friend in high school was D.D. (Diane Bishop) and I still love my other old buddies to Patty (Reedy) and Shirley (Anderson). Loren, my youngest is 16 and doing well. He is into riding motorcross at the Race grounds in Palmdale. I sit at home and hope to rekindle some old friends through this classmate thing. Life is kinda sad these days. Miss my old friends, and I miss being able to "do my job" All I have left is a badge to show for ten years of: "walking the toughtest beat in the state". Every day was new and exciting. I loved my job. If you are reading this...drop me a line. I enjoy receiving letters. I am in the hospital at Cedars-Sinai, in LA.. so I won't be at the reunion. Drop me a line.. I would love to hear from my old friends...especially those that I hung out with at school!! visit me if you like. I am in 7th floor...South Tower Room 7929. You all have fun at the reunion!!! Workplace I started working for the Department of Corrections in 1990 after completing the academy. My first assignment was at the California Institution for Men in Chino, California this is when I was first assaulted by an inmate. I continued to work and relocated to the California Correctional Institution for Men in Tehachapi Ca, in 1992. Many of my Photographs were used for the Bulletin Covers which were distributed throughout California Institutions. I promoted to Sergeant in February on 1993, and continued to work in all areas of the Prison, Minimum thru Maximum Security. I worked as a Trainer, and was on the Lieutenant's List due to promote again to Lieutenant, when I continued to notice some physical problems that seem to manifest themself greatly at work. I ended up being taken out of work by my doctor who diagnosed me with "Fibromyalgia" and eventually the State agreed that I could not work as a Correctional Sergeant anymore. I retired in 2001 after being off of work for 18 months and seeing more than 17 doctors! I continue to live with fibromyalgia, which has no cure, and I have not been able to return to work in any fashion. I stay home and take my medications and pray that someday soon they will find a cure for this painful disability. I enjoyed my job fully, it was interesting and exciting, I was good at it. I only wish that I had not gotten sick. I hope to retrain someday, and find a job that I can do. Hopefully in the line of helping people. Right now I continued to be totally disabled.
