Mary's Story

Life Let's see, the boring stuff . . . Rutherford Elementary, Gottschalk Junior High School, Iroquois High School Class of '72. University of Kentucky Class of '76 BA in Education Chapter Consultant for Alpha Gamma Delta '77-'79. Traveled all over the United States & 1 Canadian Province "selling" the Fraternity to Colleges & Universities where we did not have chapters established. '79-'82 Taught Physical Education & coached at LaReine High School in Suitland, Maryland. '82 became a sales representative for Corning Glass Works living in Tampa, FL. '84 Corning moved me to the Cincinnati area. '87 Corning moved me to Seattle, WA. '95 accepted a job which moved me to the San Francisco, Calif. area, still in the area of sales. Fall that year I met the man that is now my husband, Paul. Yes to this point I had remained single! We married in July of '97. My husband has two daughters from his first marriage so I'm a grandmother! July of 2007 we moved to Louisville, living in Hurstbourne. Louisville sure has grown in the 30 years I've been gone! But in many ways it remains very much the same. My mother is still very healthy & just as busy as ever. She lives in Old Louisville, just one block from Central Park. My brother Bill is in Louisville, has been since college, with his family. They have one daughter currently seeking a teaching job & one son that will be a sophomore at Western Kentucky University. My sister Amanda & her husband Bill Schmitt have 'retired' & moved to Louisville from the Washington, DC area in October of 2007 (two sons, one in Washington, DC & works for USAID, the o...Expand for more
ther living in Louisville & working at Clark Memorial Hospital in the IT department. So the family is once again together at 'home' in Louisville. In trying to put down roots in Louisville we have joined Second Presbyterian Church. Since moving to Louisville we were both self employed & that didn't go so well in this slow economy so I joined The Company Company - as in the camping gear people. Worked for them until Jan. 2011 then lost my position in a restructuring. Spent 11 months job hunting & am now working for Presbyterian Homes of Louisville, a Senior Living Community in Buechel. We are avid sports car fans. We both drive Audis & participate in the hobby of High Performance Driving. This is where you drive your personal car on a race track. Both Paul & I have achieved Instructor status & have instructed at Audi schools at serveral premier race tracks in the western part of the US. We have participated in events at Putnam Park in Indiana, Mid Ohio Raceway in Ohio & The Autobahn Country Club in Illinois. We are looking forward to experiencing other world class tracks in the eastern half of the US. I am an ex-member of the Board of Directors of the Audi Club North America, which is the car club. So you might say that we're a bit 'eaten up' with this car stuff. In my time away from the south I have held on to those traditions that are most dear to me & am looking forward to 'wallowing' in those great things again. So if you've made it to the end of this, sign the guest book, send an email to say 'Hi', let's get together for a drink or coffee. Whatever! It's great to be back home!
