CLASS OF 1982

Mary's Story

I was a band geek in high school, and could always be found with Tina McKee, Laura Alvelais, and Leila Masad. I was college prep and graduated with highest honors. Well, I didn't even GO to college becuz I was sick and tired of school. So I went to work at Keystone uniforms, starting as a stock clerk and engraver, moving on to tailor, sales, cashier, Assistant Manager, purchasing, AR/AP, then General Manager ("THE BIG BOSS") when the owner moved out of state. This all took 12 years. I also worked in Santa Monica for Westec Alarm Systems where I responded to alarm activations with LAPD, yes, fully armed. Not bad for the high school dweeb, huh? At 20 I married a police officer by the name of Bruce Hashimoto. If your counting (and I am) we've been married for 24 years, not counting a trial separation from 23 to 24 to sow some oats, I guess. I don't recommend getting married before you can legally drink. Something else I do recommend. We traveled to a few places, seeing all the Western States' landmarks. Then we started trying for children when we thought we were more settled down. We were overjoyed to get pregnant right away, but the baby didn't grow in the right place and ...Expand for more
I had to have emergency surgery. That was hard. But happily 2 years later, in 1990, Brian was born by C-Section after 3 days of labor. 16 months later, William was born, also by C-Section after 3 1/2 days of labor. Both of us almost died, and I had to have a hysterectomy. But God is great in his wisdom, and all these years later I know 2 children is what I was meant to have. When the boys reached school age, we took stock of our surroundings and didn't like what we saw. So we packed up and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. I went to work as a Supervisor at a call center, and Bruce works for the county, in protective services. I retired in 2000 on disability after 20 years of full-time work. I have a few challenges getting around, but I'll not stop moving, because I know if I do I'll never get started again. I do spend most of the time at home, though, so I check my e-mail and MySpace regularly. I breed Cocker Spaniels and currently have 8. We had a house fire right before Christmas 2006, and we're still trying to recover from that. Recently I found out that one of William's (Billy's) friends had a very bad home situation, so I invited him to come live with us. That's it for now.
