Mary's Story
Life
40 years in 2000 words or less? I'll try a few thoughts. I graduated from North Texas State U. with a major in math and minor in music. I married C.A.Bell while at UNT. We played in the band together there. We moved to Texarkana where he was a band director and I had a baby. Eventually we moved to Raymondville and had another baby and I started teaching math. We later moved to Mission. I've been teaching math now for about 38 years. C.A. went into Music Ministry and we later left the Valley and moved back to Denton (where we were married). I was finally able to complete a Master's in Mathematics at TWU. I am currently teaching AP calculus at Denton H.S. & C.A. is in retail & music ministry (part-time). We have a son (and daughter-in-law and grandson) in Dallas (engineer Raytheon) and our daughter, who is a manager at Dillard's in Plano. I have continued to play the clarinet at church and sometimes in town bands. ...Expand for more
I retired this past summer, but have gone back to teach 1 calculus class and work with an alternative certification school. Most of my time is spent in preparing calculus lessons and materials for teacher training. I have really used the 3 years of Spanish that I studied at BSHS both in the Valley and at Denton where I taught a bilingual/ESL math class for newcomers. I think that I got a great preparation for college at BSHS. My parents moved to Wichita Falls while I was in college and thus I lost all contact with old friends from high school. It is great to renew acquaintances, but my memory is beginning to fail after 40 years. I am struggling to remember people and situations. I would be delighted to hear from anyone about the old days. Please contact me. Some of my favorite memories are from band trips and Mr. Wiehe. I also enjoyed all the work on the plays. I still remember lots of lines from the high school plays.
