Maryanne's Story
I still love Florida living and have been here since 1976. Except to move somewhat in the 80's, for husband Mike's career opportunities, my quality of home life is tied to the sunshine state. I love my New England childhood, and wouldn't trade it for anything. My native Floridian son, Tylor's lifestyle is so totally different from the one his parents experienced, with his Dad growing up in Allentown, PA. But one thing we all share, we love those yam dankees and the NY Giants! We root on the Huskies, because Connecticut deserves that glory. The teams (both girls and boys) have been awesome over the years...and make any New Englander, proud.
As a home body and a family type gal, I love and nuture the home life! My son is doing well and broadening his horizons, as he embarks on a journey of high school lessons, JV baseball, and tackles the world of driving around Florida "in season" with his learner's permit acquiring that defensive art of driving with skill when the "Snowbirds" are flocking about! Pun intended!
But as with anything, experience is the best teacher of life, and his daily lessons are amazing, to say the least!
I am enjoying his growth and maturity, as seen through a mom's eyes, and know that with proper guidance, he shall be fine. His dad and I look for him to better the world in some way, if not through a big great thing, than through many small things. His community service at my Aunt's nursing home has proven him to be a hit with the old folks, and that shows me that ...Expand for more
his character is in the making! He's a great kid and so 15 !! It's fun to have him around to keep his parents of the fifth decade truly on thier toes! But, as with his friends, and his sports obligations, he is very sincere and passionate about his loyalty and success in achieving his goals...which at this point finds him keeping an even keel with his grades, his sports commitments (baseball and football), and his community service obligations, at best. Paint ball, bowling, movies, cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning (loves hockey), and various water sports keep his down time short, as he is also pursuing a little working money( buy that car), as he begins to build a job rapport with a local agency, makes for a full plate, but his easy going nature and God as his centerpoint, tells me that he will rise to the occasion of his many challenges.
Our children are the foundation of our youth, and as they grow, if they can keep us laughing and still remain "good" we have succeeded in finding real happiness in life. Regardless of where we feel we should be at this point in time, true happiness lies within our state of mind, not within materialistic or monetary accomplishments--at best--within the heart and soul of the "peace" found inside. My family gives me that awesome peace and I am blessed to have it.
Hope to see some of you at the upcoming reunion in '08! It's always fun to come home to Connecticut... Let's pray for a great 2008, and a super turn out of class of '73 er's...
PEACE.
