Michael's Story
Life
Well, since High School, I have done a 4 year enlisted tour in the Navy (at least it kept me out of jail) working on the EA-6B at Whidbey Island, Washington.
After that, I got out and attended the UofA and received my BA in Elementary Education in the spring of '99. Right after, I went through Navy OCS, obtained my commission as a Naval Officer in November of '99 and then went on to earn my wings as a Naval Aviator in July of '01.
In the 'picture, I'm on the left....this was taken in April 02 before we went on a torpedo shoot.
I spent approximately 3 and a half years in San Diego flying the SH-60 F/H helicopter for your Navy(and chasing admirals daughters)....and yes, my job is lots of fun.....sometimes.
I had come to find that admirals daughters were not all that cute and managed to meet a nice woman through a college friend shortly after I finished a 9 month deployment to ...Expand for more
the Western Pacific. Time moved pretty fast in that by almost a year later, I was married and a year after that, would be holding my first born.
My current goal was to do my next tour as an instructor pilot back in Corpus Christi, but as of May 04, I have selected my next duty station which will take me back to Pensacola Florida, doing station SAR (search and rescue).
Shortly after arriving in Pensacola, I had the pleasure of riding out 2 hurricanes, Dennis and Katrina, and participating in the rescue of over 160 survivors that my unit had accompished collectively.
After wrapping up 2 and a half years of the easy life in P'cola, I found myself no longer working behind a shiny new desk in a big office with a pull out couch, but instead, in the not so cozy confines of the USS Reagan and my 2 and a half foot wall-less cubicle and 18 hour days. What the hell was I thinking?
