Matt's Story
Life
In '89 I was hired by McDonnell Douglas to build airplanes. During that time I called in sick alot and took vacation time to traverse the big blue in search of surf, deserted beaches, fish tacos, and cold beer. In '94, I moved to Arcata, CA, to attend Humboldt State University. Graduating with a degree in Business Admin and one in Recreation Admin, I went to work for a local outdoor sports equipment company. During that time, I again attended Humboldt studying Engineering. The move to Humboldt County rekindled a faded passion for the art of music and SCUBA Diving. The diving and music scene there is a well kept secret. I eventually moved to Maui to immerse myself in the diving industry and to absorb Hawaiian music directly from the source. Today, I am back in Long Beach, but feel a bit unsettled; too many cars, people and smog.

ome to realize that the purest way for ME to give back is to teach and counsel youth in an outdoor setting. So, here I go again, another storybook adventure. Jimmy Buffett once wrote, "...the best navigators are never quite sure where they're going till they get there, and then they're still not sure.
I still surf, sail, race outrigger canoes, and perform and record original music almost daily. And I travel and snowboard whenever time and conditions permit.
I guess my life is like a Swiss Army knife, or a long and opportunisticlly colorful road... I'll see you at the end.
