Valinda Gail's Story
I was a “lived everywhere Air Force kid” who moved to Granada Hills in June 1966 and was surprised to actually spend three years in a row in the same school. I held back from a lot of activities since I expected to be moving again at any time. I did become involved in campus & community politics, working in the campaigns for Robert F. Kennedy & Tom Bradley, as well as participating in Student Voice & some campus demonstrations. I got to perform in the halftime show of a Rams playoff game thanks to our gymnastics class. My favorite teacher was Mr. Poppen, who challenged us to get out of our “Valley bubble”. I spent was much time as possible ...Expand for more
at Santa Monica & Zuma beaches. I remember some great lunchtime concerts and the senior TP prank.
Life took me away from LA to the Midwest, where I taught in a two-room school, small town and suburban districts. I retired after 42 years, having taught many different grades, primarily secondary, in gifted & talented programs, in theatre and in ESL programs. My social activism has continued, as has my involvement in the performing arts - primarily acting and directing.
In retirement, the plan is to return to California for good. My Wisconsin hubby is as ready for non snowy winters as I am. As always, I am ready for the next adventure. ☮️🌸😊
