Matt's Story
I graduated from Marshall in 1981 and left in 1982 after one semester of grad school (finished MA in '85 in Education) and went to work as a teacher and coach in Boone Co. WV at Madison and later at Sherman. I married Lynne (Carden, St. Albans,WV)in'84. I left teaching in '88 and went to work for Schering Corp. as a sales rep. In '93 I entered medical school and finished residency in 2000. I worked in primary care for 7 years and in 2007 made the transition to Phlebology, working for WV Vein and Skin Centers in Beckley and Charleston. We now live in the Beckley area. I have traveled to the Dominican Republic the past three years on medical missions and plan to do this many more times. Lynne and I have three children and a grandson. The oldest is Justin 25, a senior at Marshall. He excels in all sports and does well in school He was all-state in basketball and signed with Bluefield to play in college. Ended up playing both soccer and basketball at ABC. He then transferred to Marshall where he completed his degree in Business. He has a son Braylon,8 years old, who is the JOY of the family.

y her senior year. She is our "miracle" kid
(She was diagnosed as having Severe Aplastic Anemia in early Jan. 2006 at UVA. Up to 80% of patients with this diagnosis die within 6 months without treatment. Kendra, of course, is still here 5 1/2 years later...without receiving treatment. She was scheduled to be transferred to Duke for bone marrow transplant, but her last bone marrow biopsy prior to transfer showed signs of life and the transfer was postponed and eventually cancelled. She fully recovered without treatment and without explanation. The oncologists were pleased but could not explain how she recovered without treatment saying they have never seen a pt. in her position recover without medical intervention. There were a lot prayers from around the country for her...we received 100's of letters and notes from many we have never met who said they were praying for her...so we call it a miracle.)
And finally, Kara Jo,20 our "baby"...She has won a state championship in gymnastics (uneven bars) and helped lead her volleyball team to the state championship game this 3 of 4 years at Greater Beckley where she was first team all-state as a senoir. She also played basketball and now coaches gymnastics (level 4) and is a freshman at Marshall..
Would enjoy hearing from others...
