Matthew's Story

Life After several years of souls searching (which is sometimes known as "College".. or "Drinking") in the wilds of Salisbury, I found my true calling shortly before graduation in the television field, working the teleprompter for a local station for $5.45 an hour. Holy crap you say? Yes, that's right. Two jobs that summer. Do you know how much it sucks to be over 21, live in OCean City, and have two jobs?? Two jobs that I worked six days a week at?? Each??? 9am to 2pm, then 3:30 'till 12:00am. Sorry for the slide into self pity but man did that summer bite. But I digress. I worked my way to becoming the Weekend Director at the station, and after about 2 1/2 years there I left, came back to Columbia to try and find a better job at one of the stations in Baltimore or DC. After three months of unemployment, I found myself at Uno's in EC tossing salads. I prefer syrup. About a year passed, and I was bombarded with calls from my previous job to come back and take over as the main Director. Took the job, went back to Salisbury. Hate that place. Why'd I go back, you ask? I was TOSSING SALADS. Smelled like blue cheese and ranch every night. Dog loved it. Women, not so much. Girlfriend moved with me, also hated it. Little over a year passes, sent out resumes everywhere in an attempt to get out of there, and save both mine and (former) girlfriend's sanity. Found out I had lost mine somewhere in the woods near Howard. See how things come full circle? Got a job as a Technical Director/Director at Comcast SportsNet in Bethesda (channel 32 around Columbia). Before you ask, I do not install cable. And no, sorry, I cannot get you free cable. Although I get it... and free internet... sorr...Expand for more
y, it's one of the perks, I have to gloat over it. Especially with some of the stuff I put up with at work. We do Wizards games, O's games, Caps games when the NHL feels like playing, and SportsCenter type shows, but focusing on regional/local sports teams, games and events. My schedule is kind of sweet and kind of sucks. I go in at 4:30pm, and, depending on the sports and the day, get off anywhere between 12:30am or 2am. More often the latter. My days off consist of whatever during the day, and I can usually be found at the Phoenix in Old EC at night. Come on by, you can buy me a beer. At this time I will be concluding this lengthy yet curt narrative and would like to thank you for taking the time to peruse what I have deemed fit to write. There is plenty more, of course, as should be the case with all of you, but that is for another day and another time. Another time especially, because right now it is 5:04am, which to me is roughly 11pm. And I am running out of characters permitted in this little window. Part of me thinks he should say something like "Class of '95 rules", or something of that ilk. But on the offical Howard High website, some guy named Todd Pekin is putting that kind of thing all over the site, and it's unspeakably lame. The kind of thing you just shake your head at, wondering what makes some people that moronic. Not to mention the exorbitant amount of time on their hands. I don't get it. So, with a nod to the money my parents shelled out for four years, "Salisbury State University Class of '99 Rules!!!" I liked Howard too, though. Mr. Knox... Mrs. Whitney, if you're reading this, sorry about the lack of paragraph breaks. And the exaggerated use of commas. -Matt
