Maureen's Story

Miles (my husband) and I just had our 45th anniversary. We divorced our respective spouses to marry each other all those years ago. Both our ex spouses have since passed on. We're retired and are thoroughly enjoying our lives together. We have 6 children between us and we travel to see them once or twice a year. We don't travel much because we have 10 dogs (Miles hunts wild boar) and it's tough to leave them. Besides, we love being home where we're happiest. I keep busy with my miniatures (1:12 scale) and reading. Miles keeps busy doing the garden and hunting and taking care of me! Life is wonderful. Since our youngest daughter moved back home she takes good care of us. That's a good thing because she's a physician. Good thing to have a doctor in the house when you're getting along in years. She also brought her cockatoo, Tiki back home too. He's our "grand bird". We have 2 granddaughters from my oldest son who retired from the army last year and is now a Pentagon Policeman. The granddaughters are still quite young....9 & 10 We DO FaceTime them occasionally but see them at least once a year. Probably do more traveling now that our daughter moved home but still within the U.S. However, the pandemic has not allowed us to visit recently. Hopefully we can get together sometime later this year for my 75th. I'm back walking every day. Had to because I was gaining weight and that's awful. It took me a LOT of years to lose the weight. Still struggling with that....weight. My husband and I walk in the mall because it's safer for me...no uneven sidewalks to cause me to fall. But it IS dangerous in as much as I've now become a Macy's platinum member! LOL We had a family portrait taken in November but not all my children made it here. My oldest daughter was unable to come. We spent a lovely day at the Kahala Hotel. What's lovely is that we hadn't been there in over 20 years since my mother passed away. My parents always stayed at the Kahala Hilton (as it was then called). We actually saw people there who remembered my parents and me (all those years ago). My family spent a couple of hours swimming with the porpoises. So...my sister moved to Seattle from Maryland and I'm glad because she was alone there. She's my older sister and hasn't taken care of her health s...Expand for more
o at least she's now with her younger daughter and family. Doreen (MY younger daughter) and I went to the east coast to help her start to pack up and saw that she had our parents teak dining room set. She wasn't going to keep it so I had it shipped here and now I have it. That set has traveled more than most people...even to New Zealand! LOL We went to Florida and spent 4 days at Disney World. Walked about 12 miles a day (I have a step counter because I walk every day and have to have a minimum). It was exhausting to say the least but I went on most of the rides...even Tower of Terror and Avatar. Glad to see my son, his wife and my granddaughters. My aunt passed in October. She was 101. We were able to go to her 100th birthday party but unable to get to see her for her 101st because of the pandemic. We plan on going to Vegas hopefully in November and perhaps both our sons can meet us there. IF we go (and that's really due to our governor and if they do the covid vaccine passport so we can get back to Hawaii without testing. our daughter and her partner will be going with us. Since we have so many dogs and a cockatoo, we cannot be gone too long. Our nephew house sits and takes care of all the animals for us. He likes being here since he can go in the gulch behind the house and shoot wild boar with his bow and arrow. I still do my miniatures and have a rather large collection of them. They're dollhouse miniature scenes and I've been doing them for years. Between that and reading, I keep busy especially with my husband home. He retired before I did and we're always on the go running errands and such. I really need to get moving on my miniatures. They've kind of gotten out of hand because of having a knee replacement (year before last) and surgery to remove arthritis in my thumb (earlier this year). Still, I cannot keep finding excuses not to put everything straight. We got our 2nd covid vaccine this month (Feb. 2021). Glad of that. Plus the fact that my husband FINALLY shaved that horrible Covid beard (he went on razor strike until he got the vaccine). Our photo shows him, our daughter Doreen who is a psychiatrist with a thriving practice. She lives with us with her partner. Me of course (I shrunk in my old age. 2" shorter than I was). My daughter's partner is Raj.

My daughter actually went to a psychic artist who said she can draw a person's soul mate. She gave a very detailed description of her along with the sketch. It's weird because my daughter knows this person. Time for new
Our daughter at dinner last night. She's got spirit and she's a really successful psychiatrist
Our small miniature group had a Christmas gift exchange. I received this adorable piece from a very talented lady. She used a Pat Boldt doll and dressed it. She made all the accessories. Wish I had a talent like Charl
Hopefully someone reads this good quote and it helps show them the path they need to take...

This is my daughter Doreen on her way to the Christmas party at Pali Momi the local hospital. She is a psychiatric consultant for them.
Doreen at her favorite twins' birthday party today. It's their 10th birthday. My daughter Doreen is their hanai Auntie.
This was taken in Vegas when we went for Miles' 60th reunion in September. We went to a wonderful animal show.
Well, i thought I would post my exquisite chest done by Michael Reynolds. He even made a stand for it to sit on. Such an amazing artist. He got most of the molds from Pat Boldt and then wigged and dressed them himself.
