Maureen's Story
I'm a full time lobbyist and a part time massage therapist. I've done both things for more than 25 yrs. and don't think I could give up either. It may sound a little schizophrenic with two such different careers but it works for me. I'm forever expanding my knowledge of massage which from time to time has provided interesting travel opportunities, like my trip to Russia. My proudest lobbying accomplishment in years has been passage of the concealed carry legislation in IL this spring.
The love of my life is my 10 yr old nephew, Sean Michael Mulhall, courtesy of my sister Marlene (yes, Marlene gave birth for the first time at age 46!). Marlene has survived both liver cancer and breast cancer in the past 9yrs - I'm grateful that she's still alive, in part thanks to a liver transplant. We all live together in a 100+ yr old house in Springfield.
I love giving tours of Springfield when people visit. I live 4 blocks from the new Presidential Museum which I highly recommend if you find yourself in Springfield. Let me know if you're planning a trip to Spfd and I'd be happy to be your tour guide. I've also been very involved in my neighorhood association where we are working to restore a 150 yr old neighborhood.
I've traveled a lot through the years, both within the US and outside. I've recently been to Mexico, Paris and my favorite place in the world, Scotland, where I found out what a Scotsman wears under his kilt!! I anticipate returning to Scotland for a longer visit in 2014. Once I win the lottery I'll buy a second home along Loch Ness.
Music is a big part of my life - listening, not playing. In the past couple of years I've seen ...Expand for more
the Doobie Brothers, Buddy Guy, Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, and George Benson - all were great and not the first time I'd seen some of them. Concert activity slowed down a little in 2011 but I've seen some good smaller acts in Springfield, Bloomington and Watseka - yes Watseka!! Anyone around Kankakee should check out the Watseka Theater website - they have good bands pretty frequently.
The 2012 concert season started in March when I saw Here Come the Mummies in Bloomington. That show was follwed by Joe Bonamassa & Steve Winwood the same week in May. Marlene, Sean & I saw Train and Steve Miller at the State Fair. Both concerts were great, but I especially enjoyed Steve Miller - his music and his playing have both held up through the years. If you're a Led Zepplin fan come to Springfield Sept 1 to hear Get the Led Out - they're the closest I'll ever be to a Led Zepplin concert. Then it's Journey in November in Spfd. I know, I'm going pretty retro here, but it's hard not to take advantage of the concerts coming through town.
The second trip to Wrigley Field with all 3 of my nephews occurred in July. So far the Cubs are 2-0 in our family trips - 3 of us are happy with that, but Sean, having lived in St. Louis til he was 8, continues to be a Cardinal fan.
I've made a few trips out to Newport News, VA this yr visiting one of our classmates. Virginia is the most beautiful state I've ever visited - I could live near the ocean without missing IL weather at all.
Our 40th class reunion was great. I'm so impressed with our classmates who came 1,000+ miles to attend. There were a lot of laughs, a lot of hugging and a good time had by all.
