Maurice's Story
Life
I got married to my wife on July 24, 1982. We presently have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
In 1998 the Guide Dogs of America thought they had a litter of male yellow labs. Female labs are a better size to be guide dogs and have a disposition for the job so they offered us one. When we got to the facility they had realized they were wrong and they had a litter of female labs. They decided to let us have one of the females anway we brought home Sundance our 4 legged child.
Our second son got a puppy in 2005 for his birthday while my wife was in Slidell showing her sister our retirement home. I didn't know the puppy was his dog or that it would grow to be over 200 lbs. His friend had given him our second 4 legged child an African Ridgeback which he named Silko. Our dogs are very happy living in Palmdale since our fence in Slidell was distroyed in Katrina, and I have not yet completed repairs on it.
I went back to school in 2003 to show the world that I had an understanding of Information Technology. I had been working with computers in my job since 1984. Peop...Expand for more
le that didn't know me questioned my understanding of computers while people that worked with me realized the depth of my understanding. In 2005 I graduated from American Intercontinental University (AIU) with a BIT (Summa Cum Laude). Everyone told me I should consider teaching so I continued in school and obtained my Masters in Education - Instructional Design in 2006. AIU asked me to return in 2006 for the graduation cerimony so they could present me with their most outstanding student award.
On August 1, 2007 I retired from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. My wife and I moved into our home in Slidell Louisiana where we are currently finishing up reconstruction needed after hurricane Katrina.
My first son is married with 2 children. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife.
My second son lives in Palmdale. He is waiting to go into the Highway Patrol.
My daughter just completed her studies in Arabic and will be going to her 'permanent' assignment soon.
My third son Maurice Jr. is presently in Germany and may return to to Iraq for his second tour.
