BIO - Weldon Maurice Hegwood
After graduating from Central High, I went on to Mississippi State and majored in electrical engineering. I hated to leave Mississippi, but unfortunately there were very few electrical engineering jobs in Mississippi other than at the Mississippi Power and Light. I wasn't interested in that field, so I ended up accepting a job with Westinghouse Defense Center in Baltimore, Maryland in 1961. I helped design and manage the design of defense systems for the next 35 years. My area of specialty was display systems.
I met my wife in the mid 60's. She had just graduated from Wake Forest and was working at Westinghouse for the Summer until she could start teaching in the fall. We were married in 1967 and have 2 sons, Wilson Holbrook and Weldon Harrison. They are both working for the FBI. We raised our family in Crofton, Maryland and lived there from 1968 to 2001. It is close to Annapolis. I retired in Jan. 1996 at the age of 57. To celebrate, my wife and I headed to Europe for a month. We started in Paris, and then moved on to the southern and western coast of England. We had covered a lot of other areas in Britain on an earlier trip with the two boys. We had a great time. When my wife retired in 2000, we began looking for the perfect place to retire. We bega...Expand for more
n exploring the eastern shore of Maryland (which is very different from the western shore - much more relaxed) and decided on the town of Easton. It is a real paradise. Talbot County, where Easton is located has more waterfront than any other county in the nation - over 600 miles of shoreline. I remember asking my wife if she was sure that there was enough to do in Easton; boy, was I wrong. There is anything that one would want to get involved in. Art, music, gardening, writing, poetry, book clubs, boating - you name it! And the people are terrific. Peggy really enjoys flower gardening, so she belongs to a number of gardening clubs as well as a number of other organizations. We both belong to the Herb Society. Once a month, we all get together and have an herb dinner and listen to a lecture on herbs. I also found another pianist in Easton who was interested in working on classical piano for 4 hands. She and I get together twice a week and practice. We had our 4th concert among friends not long ago. So far, the Brahms Hungarian Dances are my favorite.
When I look back on my education in Mississippi, both in the Jackson schools and at Mississippi State, I have to say that the schools did a very credible job. I certainly appreciate what it has allowed me to do and thank all that had a part in it.
