Maury's Story

Life All photographs of me during high school were destroyed to protect the not so innocent that might have been in the photo with me ;) the "then" photo is my daughter and I skiing in Vail in April 07. the "now" photo was taken shortly after an Annapolis to Solomons race on 7/18/2008.. I spent a few years after high school wandering around, aimlessly accumulating college credits around the country. Studied architecture in FL; Did the Ski bum thing in Colorado for a while; built a few houses; and finally landed back in Alexandria. The last time I checked, I had 368 semester hours and no degree. I have a 15 year old daughter that lives in Indiana with her mother. I see her every few weeks, either flying out there for the weekend, or bringing her out here for a couple weeks at a time during the summer.. She has been taking sailing lessons here in the summer the last 9 years and has joined my crew and I on many races on my sailboat. She started skiing when she was 6 and Sping break...Expand for more
in Vail has now become a ritual. This past Christmas we spent in Vail and this was the year that I started looking back up the hill to find her only to hear her screaming UP the hill at me to hurry up. Quite by accident got into the Computer biz in '80. Worked for MCI for a couple years, when they were getting off the ground. Got into the defense contracting arena in '85 and have more or less made a career in that. I bought a boat to live on in 1984 and lived aboard for 11 years at Gangplank Marina in DC and various other places on the Potomac and around the Chesapeake Bay. I was recruited by an acquaintance to crew on his sailboat on a race from Annapolis down to Hampton, and have spent most of my spare time, since, involved in racing. I work so that I can afford to sail and buy new sails. I recently sold a boat and bought a boat.. the two happiest days... I bought an old J35 to race on West River and up in Annapolis. I currently live on the water in a house on West River, MD.
