Max's Story

Crazy. You've got time to read this. Well, I guess it's just as amazing I bothered to write it, eh? I am a student... have been for years, and will be for years more. I study physics, primarily, but fiction studies/writing has a way of creeping into my schedule. I served two years at Union Pines HS, where I recall being an outcast, though I held a great respect for my peers. In retrospect, I think I wasn't so alone. I just didn't know how to see the people around me. I then was accepted to the NC School of Science and Mathematics. I thought, ah, there is a place of great intellect and opportunity! I was right, but my life took a turn toward being socially interested. Spending time with friends and chasing enchanting women became my chief concern. Thus is youth. It was during this time I became rather tall and broad of shoulder... I was already broad of belly. I discovered an innate ability to throw people around, and a will to do so. It was infantile, and I sorely regret those moments when I treated my peers with violence. My sincere apologies, Colin, if you ever read this. I graduated, if not with top grades at least with a decent SAT score, and was accepted to UNC-CH. I was not focused on class, and so squandered that chance for education rather quickly. I must say, however, that I have learned more about myself and society in the years since then than I could have imagined. With my parents' blessing, I visited England, my homeland. It was a powerful and altering experience for me, where I realized that I could affect my own destiny through focus, precision, and will. Sundry occupations, a general trend of growing stability and responsibility in my life. Selling my plasma, a valet, a strong-back, a kennel worker, a dish washer, a construction worker, a couple years as a security systems technician. In the midst of all this I clung to my dearest friends, finding significance in their proximity. Four years ago, I met Ashley. Actually, I met her...Expand for more
eight years ago, but she finally sloughed off a fiancee four years ago (not my doing... it was the best for both of them, I had no hand in it). We started dating seriously, and I realized I needed to be a better person. Better = more successful, educated, wealthy, ambitious, strong, clean, etc. So I did what any aspiring success story would do: I moved into my parents'. Specifically, into their pink room. Yes, that's right, the whole room, all the fixings, the rug, the trim, the bedspread, the towels, the sink, the toilet, the toilet paper... all pink. Changed my world, man. Seriously, though, I busted out a President's List Associates Degree in Science from Sandhills Community College (that place is the best school I have ever attended... I miss it very much.) There, I was famous/infamous for dungeon-mastering a fourteen person Advanced Dungeons and Dragons game every Thursday for six hours. If you have never played, it's hard to describe. If you have played, you still may not realize what a monumental event this was. Planning, politics, imagination, discipline, dedication. It was beautiful, and I mean that in the same way Stonehenge is beautiful on Winter's Solstice in the snow at sunset while the Druids perform their peaceful rites. I was also the Vice President of Student Government, where I organized a very successful Blood Drive for Hurricane Katrina Victims, and helped to run the paperwork for a $100K budget. Sweet! After Sandhills, I decided to pursue a BS in Physics from NCSU. I have lived in Raleigh for going on two years; I focus intently on my studies and in my spare time I try to give love to my family and Ashley, as well as take care of my friends to the best of my ability. I hope to obtain a research position on campus, maybe with the nuclear reactor there. I have plans to pursue a PhD at any of a number of graduate schools, as long as I can get funding for them. Thank you for catching up on me. May life find you healthy and happy.
