Maxine's Story

I really don't know why anyone would remember me except for a few friends and neighbors. I was tall and rather shy in High School and not very confident. I truly have had an interesting life so far, however. I wen to Beauty School at Fullerton JC. I worked a couple of years, married, moved to Fresno, Ca. because we purchased a Taco Bell franchise. Then another. We raised three sons and did a lot of traveling in our motor home. I partnered with a friend and created a restaurant called The Peasantry. Quite a learning experience. I then taught Beauty school for several years until I was asked to manage the salon at JCPenney in Fresno. Did that until retirement after twenty years. I hated retirement and after one year to the day I returned to teaching Cosmetology. Interesting how a simple license which cost me only $35 in 1960 (now in a private school it costs about $20,000!) has always made a nice enjoyable living for me. A couple months ago I was asked to be a consultant/manager for a new salon. I am having the "time of my life". o still contribute and "make a difference!" I enjoy my sons and their children, my husband and my life. I remember my Anaheim High School days and all the fun we had at such an innocent time to have been a teenager. I hope that anyone who may read this has enjoyed their life so far as well. WE ARE NOT DONE YET!!! Our ethics are unmatched today and employers are lucky to get us. Those of you who have your working days behind you, I hope you are truly enjoying yourselves at this chapter in your life. As for me, my chapters may be shorter, but still make my life extremely interesting, challenging and fulfilling. I am now 79 and mostly retired except for my art. I sell some I’ve created at a local bookstore and in a couple of months I will teach alcohol ink art again there, Covid knocked us all for a loop, but I did take the lockdown seriously and my Husband and i got vaxxed in February. 2021. We are doing fine and I’m loving not being masked. I traveled to Anaheim a month ago and we drove by AHS. Everything else looks so different, no downtown anymore it seems, I hope you all are enjoying your lives as much as possible!
