Maylannee's Story
Life
My family was of the traveling sort. We immigrated from Indonesia to San Diego, CA when I was 4 yrs. My dad's job with Chevron Oil took him to many places so we moved around a lot. I continued this tradition long into my adult life. Mostly for fun, sometimes to chase jobs in various states and countries.
Although I still travel a lot for work and fun, I have since settled to a more peaceful life. I am very happily married with three teenage children (that's my son pictured with me). I currently live and work in Los Angeles.
School
I was definitely a late bloomer. I think because I am Asian and went to school in a mostly caucasian environment in Orange County, CA, and then in Bloomington, CA, I felt awkward and insecure. For me, life started after high school. Although I attended college, I did not complete my degree, not the studious type. But I am a student of life, My experiences from living around the globe were wonderful. I love learning and experiencing different cultures, which helped me to grow into who I am today.
Workplace
I am currently employed with an overseas company. I am responsible for the company's entire U.S. operations (located in West Los Angeles). My job requires me to travel on occasion to countries where high fashion reigns. This year I'm going to Milan, Italy for the very first time! I've been to most of western Europe, but never in Italy. Life is exciting and I'm thankful for the opportunities I'...Expand for more

Military
I loved my military experience! Everyone thought I was crazy for enrolling--even got called "Private Benjamin" for my naivete (I joined the military so that I can travel abroad--which I did!)... So I don't regret it for a moment. Even after three Article 15s (no joke), I was discharged with honors and even managed to get a good conduct medal. I met some wonderful people and lived many incredible experiences that I still tell my kids about. Loved it. Go Army!
UPDATE: 10/26/12
Now living in Portland, OR. Moved up here with my husband about 5 years ago so he can pursue his graduate degree. At the time, all our children had grown up and moved out, so we were empty nesters. Since then, two of our children have moved to Portland - it's a great town, we love it here. The last remaining hold-out plans on moving here in the Spring. Only our youngest is living with us again, trying to save money for her trip to Barcelona--she has the travel bug like her mom. We still love to travel. Went to Germany & France last year, Hawaii this year, and Bali/Singapore next year.
Life is slower in Portland, so different from L.A, but still good. I'm no longer an excutive in the fashion/import industry. I work as an admin in an accounting office, and my husband is still trying working on his Masters degree. You don't realize what a treadmill you're on until you finally get off it. I'm happy with my work and this much slower pace.
