Paul's Story

Life Check out stroke4 DOT com. They won't let me put the URL. I graduated from UF in 1983. I took the 5 year, I'm happy to get out of this place, degree. I have a BA in Business with a minor in Computers or something like that. After college I went to work for my 3rd grade teacher's husband until I found what I wanted to do. I worked there about 10 years. After that I was unemployed for about 2 years. Oh? What happened you say? I was just not happy and depressed. I quit my job and stayed unhappy and depressed for 2 years. Then, I bought a How To book on MS Word and started coming into the 20th century as far as computers are concerned. I then went to work for a company that sold and setup computer networks. I worked there for about 2 years. I didn't get a raise or promotion or a bonus at all during that time period. I had something to say about that one day and then had my career redirected. After a month or so I landed the job at BCBSFL. I started making about 60% more than what I made at the previous job. It was rough making the transition but, I survived. (c:)~ I turned 44 in June of 2004 and was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in August. I tell that to people simply because I found that it's something men just don't easily talk about when it happens to them. I've had someone say "it's no big deal" to someone turning around and saying "Gotta go! Good bye!". I won't say Prostate Cancer was a life changing experience, although it was... I would say the previous 8 or 9 years were a life changing experience that prepared me for dealing with Prostate Cancer. Check my web site out if you want to know the details. I've posted everything on there. It was a way of dealing with the process. On 9/11/07 I quit my job at BCBSFL after 11.5 wonderful years. Ok... it was 11.0 wonderful years. The last few months got me to thinking I need to find something else to do. What am I doing now? I opened a franchise store called Goin' Postal. I'm...Expand for more
on St. Augustine Rd next to Athen's Cafe, Fred's and Decorative Fabrics. The store opened on 1/17/07. It's been kinda slow... so, feel free to come by and buy or ship something! I need the business. I would also like to say that I am passionate about rowing. I haven't been able to row much in the last few years. So, I try to stay involved by taking photos of the Bolles School rowers (Bo Stringer's daughter is a rower) and referee a few races a year. In addition to that you might catch me on tv once in a while. I sing in the choir at FBC downtown. I've been doing that since about 2000 or 2001. Hey, I said the last 8 or 9 years have been life changing. Hey, if you won't come to my store then come to my church... or visa versa. Well... it's not really MY church, I just go there. Man, I still have over 1000 characters left to type. AHhhhhh!!! Holy cow! I am the only person at Englewood, give or take 2 or 3 years, that has written ANYTHING in their bio. And, I still have over 900 characters left to type. I guess you can tell things were slow at the store today. (c:)~ But, I enjoy it. It's simple, yet it's complicated. It involves computers and quick thinking. Fortunately, I'm good at computers. (c:)~ The neat thing is I get to meet a lot of different people. Over 600 characters remaining. I am such a geek! I used to be a nerd. But, I grew up and now I'm a geek. I wonder if I can claim this as a business deduction since I mentioned the business? Hmmm... Workplace 9/11/07 - I quit my job at BCBSFL after 11.5 wonderful years... ok, make that 11 wonderful years. (c:)~ I was in IT. 1/17/07 - I officially opened my business! It's a franchise called Goin' Postal. It's on St. Augustine and Dupont Ave. Come by and buy something! Business is slow. 2/21/07 - Ok... I've only been open a month and a half. but, I enjoy it. It's simple but, complicated. Each day is something different. I get to meet new people almost every day. I love that.
