Marla's Story
Well, being the country girl I always was, of course I ended up in the 'sticks'.
My husband and I moved to Terra Bella, CA, from Granada Hills 30 years ago to get out of the LA City School District that was trying to bus all the white kids to the inner city for school (huge 'white flight' at the time), and raise our kids at a slower pace.
But I've been single now for over 25 years, raised 2 boys in the process and pretty much been through it all. Since I haven't had the good sense to retire yet, I stay pretty busy between work and play - play consisting of lots of animals, travel, hiking, riding, skiing, and family stuff. I have a very large place that I take care of myself. I commute a 'fur piece' and work 4 x 10's/wk so you can pretty much do the math. I still have one horse which I don't take enough time to ride anymore. I mostly like to take off on local hikes with my dogs whenever I can.
I am always on the go and travel to Ojai as often as I can to visit my Dad (and...Expand for more
brother/family), to Pismo to visit friends, and to the Eastern Sierra's for R & R and great eastern sierra hikes. If I slowed down I would probably fall flat on my face
Oh yeah, the fam - the very most important part!. I claim one failed marriage, but I have two great kids and two wonderful grandkids. Did I mention I'm hoping for more (both sons have recently married)? One is settled in Steamboat Springs, CO. where I hope to do the same some day soon (for at least the summer months). Just not ready to give up the wild part of me that loves a little adrenaline rush now and then, and no better place then CO to do that .....
Seems like High School was so long ago and far away. My fondest memory? Probably the night my partners in crime, Sue (Colclazer) and Lynn (Mezera), raced our horses around the boys track (yeah back then, the girls only got to play volleyball and I do remember, archery). Boy were 'They' mad - it really messed up the track, but 'They' never caught us.
