Michael's Story
Life
Hi there fellow Matadors.
After graduation I worked at a drugstore
several years in the lower valley. In 1976
I joined the NAVY which I stayed in for 15
years. I worked in Supply in the ships store
division and learned a wide variety of skills.
Our division ran the ship's store, the laundry,
the barber shop and vending machines. I spent most of my time in office records, doing ships
store audits, and inventory. I got to heavy and
was honorably discharged in 1991 because I did
not meet standards so I was not eligiable to re-
enlist, thats ok though I didn't care for the NAVY anyway.
Since then I have worked my way up in the motel
business and have managed the Travelodge Motel
in El Cajon Ca the Best Western Chula Vista Inn in Chula Vista Ca and I am now the Night Manager and Marketing Director of the Days Inn and Suites in El Cajon Ca . I also train all new employees at the front desk
I married my wife Kerrie (Ehlers) on Nov 24 1973
at Most Holy Trinity Church right down the street
from Parkland and we have been married for
36 1/2 years now, we have two children John is 34 now
and works as a technician at one of our Indian
casinos, James is 31 and works with the church and
teaches bible studies and is the boys baseball coach, volleyball coach, and asst. coach for boys basketball and girls soccer and volleyball at his churchs private high school, Foothills Christian in El Cajon and works at Ashford University
PLease I look forward to hearing fo all classmates I do keep in touch
School
I was in marching band for 6 years ( remember the 7th and 8th graders from Dolphin Terrace marched with the band also) and loved all the years in it. We had great band trips to Marfa and Alpine, Deming, T or C and the best trip to San Antonio in my senio...Expand for more
r year 1970 for the Battle of Flowers Parade and Stage Band contest which we finished 2nd in in our classification
While many did not like Mr PLumbley, he is my Mr Hollands Opus and would give the shirt off his back to teach a kid to play music. I know he paid for many students rentals so they could be in band without them ever knowing it, or being able to say thank you beause they did not know it
My favorite teachers Mr PLumbley, Mr Shirley, Mr Lanelli,
Mr Duncan Coach Glover.
Crush and love would have been Gem Ann and Betty. I had a crush on Carol, and Debby in 7th and 8th grade but then I just liked them because they were not stuckup sobs an treated me like a human being Frank Dailey, Chuck Reneger, Chuck Hammond, Patsy Williams, Judy Flynt were more wonderful caring persons really cared about and were always kind to me, even today
Funniest moment was when the chaperones did room check in San Antonio and as Ed McLeod dove for the bed we turned off the light and he missed and hit the wall
Workplace
was in the Navy for 15 years and worked in Supply.
On the outside world much time was spent in retail having managed several convience stores then I discovered th motel business and I am now night manager at the Days Inn and Suites in El Cajon Ca This is my third motel management job, the last two I was an onsite manager and hope to work into that posistion here
Military
I was a Plank Owner on the Dwight D Eisenhower CVN-69 and The Emory S Land AS-3 and also assigned to the USS Hoel DDG-13 and USS Fort Fisher LSD-40
Worked in Supply and won 2 Navy Achivement award in the Navy for my hard work.
I always wanted to be a Professional Bolwer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a Great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
