Ray's Story
Here's the short story since high school: Cypress College; in the summer of 1976 Alan Osbon and I took a 33 day 10,000 mile driving trip across the United States and Canada (too many stories from that to tell here);
Moved in with my first live-in girl friend at 22, Toni, who was a women's high school basketball coach and teacher; that lasted 4 years; during that time I dropped out of college (long beach state) 18 units shy of graduating; worked for an OCTD contractor and began playing drums in my first band;
Started living with my 2nd live-in girl friend, Rebecca, about 1981 - that lasted two years - I had the same jobs;
Around 84 moved in with my 3rd live in girl-friend, Ann, who had a daughter, Jennifer. At first continued to work at OCTD contractor, but now that I had a "family," I was taking care of more than just me, so I went back to college with the goal of getting some type of advanced degree to "catch up."
Ended up doing well and graduated from Long Beach State. A professor at Fullerton State encouraged me to try law school (or at least take the entrance test) to see what would happen. Up to that point I thought a legal career was "out of my league." I did well on the LSAT, but my grades weren't good enough to get into a "big" law school. Still, I made it into ABA approved Southwestern in LA. I moved to LA to attend, while Ann & Jennifer stayed in Brea. The distance was too much and Ann and I broke up, but Jennifer continued to be my daughter.

When I graduated from law school in 1990, Ali, another law student, and I began living together. I graduated with honors from Southwestern and was hired as a consumer protection - law enforcement attorney by the Federal Trade Commission in 1990.
Since high school I constantly played basketball. And since about 1976 I played drums in rock bands (except during law school). Result: 4 broken noses, broken fingers, many sprained ankles, and many stitches.
In 1993 Ali and I broke up. With no one to vacation with that summer I went to Byron Scott's Fantasy Basketball Camp, which featured Bill Walton and many other NBA players, refs etc. Great experience - several life-long friends. Thereafter I went to the camp every year until 2000, when Byron stopped holding them as he started coaching the NJ Nets.
In 1996, through the dating service, Great Expectations, I met my wife Judi, who's a doc (just the person I needed to take care of my injuries). We were married in 1997, the first couple to be married at the Ports O' Call restaurant in San Pedro.
We have three successful, happy, grown children, and two great dogs: Rocky & Wink (wire hair fox terriers). Our sons are Scott and Daniel. Jennifer got married (and I gave her away) in 2004.
I've been at the FTC for over 20 years now. I play drums in three or four rock bands in LA and Orange counties, but no more basketball. In 2008 Judi opened up an anti-aging & weight-loss medical practice in Torrance. Go Lakers!
